pressed close
like a book dried rose petal
under the cozy nook vent of her sweet breath nose
your weekend clothes in a mess
with those of the latest guest
to pose against your lonely chest
and only after you’ve confessed
she’ll show you why you like her best
you pull your scrappy stories close around
it forms a nest of words
and resting here doesn’t seem absurd
unlike your former quest
the world of tests you put yourself through
and you always knew
there comes a time to ask
will this one be the last?
and can you accept imperfection and faults?
you scan the vaults of your quick past
so slippery and so vast
all you gave and gathered
roles played, shite blathered
close shaves and tight-ladders
those slaves with nice masters
you prayed to know every answer
to all the questions
you asked her
you unmasked her
now you wish you’d done it faster
or slower
now you know her
you should show her
what you’ve got
what it is
and what it’s not
pressed close
like dry rose petals in a closed book of poetry
i know it’s you
you know it’s me
This is an album I made in collaboration over the internet with two fine musicians back home in Dublin Ireland. There is a very interesting mix of styles, tones and rhythms. Dan Ball
